The World Health Organization and UNICEF jointly recommend that:
Infants should be exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life. From six months onward, appropriate and safe complementary foods should be introduced while continuing breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is recommended to continue up to two years of age or beyond to support optimal growth, development, and health.
Based on this, the global nutrition target is:
By 2030, at least 70% of infants under six months of age should be exclusively breastfed.
